Covid 19 Update – Office Closure & Courses Postponed

COVID 19 Update – Office Closures – Course Postponements

May 12th, 2020

We are following the emergency status updates from the government of Ontario and the daily developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, we have been able to see a decrease in the number of new COVID-19 cases throughout the province which is promising news and brings us hope. As a result, the government has started to ease the restrictions on business in stages, and hopefully, we will all go back to our new normal lives soon. However, our operation is not on the list of essential business and we are still not cleared to resume operation. We hope that with the continued decrease in the number of cases in Ontario, the government will lift the restrictions on business like ours by June. That is why we are postponing all our courses until June 2nd, 2020. If however, the government lifts the restrictions on businesses like ours earlier than June 2nd, 2020, we will do everything possible to re-open sooner.

We are all in this together; and the more we follow the instructions of health experts and continue to adhere to principles of social distancing, the sooner we will be able to get back to our normal routine.

COVID 19 Update – Office Closures – Course Postponements

May 5th, 2020

Dear Canadians,

We hope you and your families are healthy and safe.

As you are aware, due to the spread of COVID-19, most businesses including Coast2coast First Aid & Aquatics were forced to close down their offices and therefore we had no choice but to postpone all classes.

New Opportunities for Our Students, Blended Learning:

We would also like to take this opportunity and inform you once again on our Online Blended First Aid & CPR/AED Programs. The blended program can be an excellent choice for most individuals at this time as it’s delivered partially through online interactive modules which can be done at home and the rest of the training which would include hands-on practices would be conducted in class.

After completing the online portion of the course, individuals would receive a Canadian Red Cross 90 days certificate which would constitute a temporary certificate for their needs. Within those 90 days, the student is then expected to complete the in-class portion to upgrade to a 3 years valid certificate.
Following the spread of the virus, we understand the most people would prefer to spend more time at home and our blended programs offer that. Please note our Online Blended Courses offer the same certification approved by WSIB and keeps the learning experience quality to the highest standards.
This is an exceptional option considering everyone is spending a lot of time at home.

Coast2Coast Proactive Approach for Reopening Classes:

We want you to know that your safety is our number one priority and that is why we have implemented a special procedure to ensure the safety of everyone in our courses.

Some of the steps taken to protect you from the risk of COVID-19 are:

  • We have established a system of active screening by Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer to be conducted before the start of each training
  • We have implemented administrative controls such as proper training for our instructors and staff regarding screening clients and written infection prevention and control protocols
  • Use of appropriate disinfectants, and decontaminants
  • Increased cleaning and sanitization of commonly touched surfaces, areas, or items (e.g. door handles, railings, tables, work surfaces, equipment e.g. computer keyboards and mice).
  • Use, wearing and care of personal protective equipment such as gloves, facial protection masks
  • Easy access to soap and water (or other ways to properly sanitize hands)
  • Encouraging staff and students to frequently wash their hands with soap and water (for a minimum of 20 seconds) or alcohol-based (greater than 60% alcohol) hand sanitizer
  • We ask everyone to stay home if they are sick, or if they have any of the symptoms of COVID 19
  • Washing uniforms and clothes more often
  • We have secured additional supplies of cleaning solutions, wipes, gloves, and etc.

We will be more than ready to open our doors once your training comes around. We are working non-stop to increase the safety of our clients to the highest level possible and to ensure you can complete your training with peace of mind.

Following the everyday changes and the increase in health concerns and the number of positive cases with COVID 19 in Canada, it is with a heavy heart that we have made the hard decision to extend our office closure and to postpone our courses until April 20, 2020.

Online First Aid & CPR/AED

We are now offering the Online First Aid & CPR programs which are developed to be simple to use, interactive, and effective. Learn important First Aid and CPR skills with our wide range of levels to meet every need, including those looking to be more prepared for their own health and safety or to keep those around them more prepared. Recertification

According to the Canadian Red Cross, for individuals who are looking to renew and recertify their training, we will be allowing a 90 extension to get re-certified.

Blended Training

Because of the ongoing health concerns and temporarily postponement of our courses, we are allowing our Blended training students to extend the period to complete the online portion of their course to 90 days. Please note that our Blended learning programs would cut the classtime by half as the theory portion of the course is done online through interactive modules. Our blended programs would offer WSIB approved certificates. For more information, please click here.

As Canadians, we all have a part in helping to flatten the curve and impact of the COVID 19. We are strongly recommending everyone to practice social distancing in order to help lower the spread of the virus to those who may be more vulnerable. Please be sure to stay inside and wash your hands often and properly.

The Importance of Owning a First Aid Kit

A person with gloved hands is wrapping a white bandage around another person's injured hand. The seated person has their hands resting on their lap, and the background is out of focus.

Injuries: they happen daily whether we are prepared for them or not which is why it is important to have a first aid kit handy at all times. There are many incidents that occur to those who do not have easy access to a fully stocked first aid kit, making them susceptible to further injuries. Understand the importance of owning a First Aid Kit, where you should store one and what it should be stocked with.

A Guide to Knocked Out Tooth Emergencies

A woman is receiving dental treatment from two dentists. She is lying back with her mouth open as they work, wearing blue surgical gowns, gloves, and masks. The setting appears to be a dental clinic.

As children, we all patiently (or impatiently) waited for our baby teeth to fall out. As adults, when we see a tooth or a segment of a tooth fall out, we become scared and frightened. We have been taught since an early age that your adult teeth are your only teeth, so it is in your best interest to keep them clean and safe of harm’s way.

Why Don’t you Offer the CPR HCP Course?

Two emergency responders in red uniforms perform CPR on a man lying on the ground. One administers chest compressions while the other uses a bag valve mask for ventilation. An ambulance is partially visible nearby.

Recently, we have received many questions asking us if we provide CPR-HCP courses. Many professions require employees to be CPR and First Aid certified. Each job title requires you to attain a specific certificate, so it is important you sign up for the correct course(s). We recommend that you speak to your employer about which course you are required to take.

Why don’t we offer CPR-HCP?

As of April, the Canadian Red Cross has replaced CPR-HCP with Basic Life Support (BLS) courses. BLS is still the necessary course designed for healthcare providers, but now covers more information and goes into further detail about each topic that is covered. What was once a one hour course is now a four hour course with the option to include additional topics such as Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy.

Is BLS the same as CRP-HCP? In short, no, but it is the newly required course for healthcare providers now.

Why has HCP been replaced by BLS?

There are a couple reasons why HCP has been replaced by BLS. One reason is to create a clear distinction from all public CPR courses. Heathcare providers require specific training due to the professional environment they work in. The BLS course focuses on high-performance resuscitation in a team environment which is much different from normal CPR courses.

Another reason HCP has been replaced by BLS is because of the course content. Originally, HCP covered limited topics over a short duration. There was not enough time or information for students to learn important, life-saving skills for their jobs. BLS takes place over four hours and covers more detail about the topics learned in HCP while also teaching additional skills.

Who needs a BLS certificate?

Those who need a BLS certificate are typically those who work in a hospital setting such as nurses and medical doctors. Other professions, such as dentists, may require the BLS certificate as well, but you would need to check with your employer to confirm.

Master the Essentials of Basic Life Support!

Join our BLS course at Coast2Coast and learn critical skills that can save lives. Our experienced instructors will guide you through hands-on training, ensuring you’re prepared to respond in emergencies.

Is the BLS certificate valid nationally?

Yes. BLS certificates issued by the Canadian Red Cross are valid throughout Canada.

How do I renew my BLS certificate?

BLS is a certificate that must be renewed every year. Course materials are always changing, so it is important to keep your knowledge up to date. Healthcare providers must be able to fulfill their duties in the workplace, so keeping your certificate up-to-date is crucial.

Coast2Coast BLS Course

Coast2Coast offers many morning and evening BLS courses guaranteed to fit your schedule. Each course is taught by a highly trained Canadian Red Cross instructor. Once you complete the course and pass the multiple choice exam with a 75% score or higher, you will receive your certificate from the Canadian Red Cross. All certificates will be processed within 5-10 business days online.

Many of those who require the BLS certificate may also need Standard First Aid and CPR Level C. This is a separate course that cannot be taken on the same day as BLS. Coast2Coast does offer a bundle deal for those who require both certifications. While signing up for Standard First Aid and CPR-C, select the option for a bundle deal. You will receive a special discount code you can apply while signing up for your BLS course.
